Ryongchon (spelling and pronunciation in South Korea 용천 = Yongcheon ) is 20 kilometers from the border to China remote town in North Korea in the province of North Pyongan Province and is located in the northwest of the Korean peninsula . Ryongchŏn means "dragon river".

South of the border river Amrok-gang , the city is only a few kilometers from the capital Sinŭiju of North Pyŏngan Province.

135,634 people live in the urban area, the city itself is said to have 69,151 inhabitants. According to South Korean information, the city is home to a large number of people of Chinese descent .

An important railway line from Pyongyang to the People's Republic of China also runs here, which is why the city is a transit station for numerous traders from North Korea and China.

In this place occurred on 22. April 2004 of ryongchon disaster .
