Ernst Bettermann

Ernst Bettermann (born August 27, 1903 in Gelsenkirchen-Schalke ; † June 30, 1983 in Bramsche ) was a German politician ( SPD , later farmers' party ) and farmer.

After elementary school, Bettermann worked in a number of farms and attended the agricultural school in Quakenbrück between 1924 and 1926 . In 1926 he successfully passed the examination at the Chamber of Agriculture.

He was politically active since 1920. Bettermann was chairman of the North-West German hirers 'and small farmers' association between 1926 and 1933. Bettermann was a co-founder of the Free Rural Youth and was arrested in 1937. After the end of the war in 1945 he became an arbitrator for the communities of Rieste and Bieste and took over the management of the housing and refugee commission. He became chairman of a local association of the SPD and co-founded the Lower Saxony Farmers, Tenants and Settlers Association in 1947

In 1945 he was elected to the local council. Bettermann was appointed a member of the Hanover State Parliament in 1946 (August 23, 1946 to October 29, 1946). From 1947 to 1955 he was an elected member of the Lower Saxony state parliament of constituency 86 for the SPD of the state parliament for the 1st and 2nd electoral periods between April 20, 1947 and May 5, 1955.

Since January 30, 1955, he was no longer a member of the SPD parliamentary group, but a non-attached MP. From February 7, 1955 he was a member of the Farmers' Party (LP). From January 7, 1954 to December 30, 1954, he was also district administrator of the Bersenbrück district . He later got involved in the German Peace Union, for which he ran unsuccessfully on the Lower Saxony state list in the 1961 federal election.

From 1952 he campaigned intensively for the establishment of the village of Lappenstuhl . In 1985 the "Ernst-Bettermann-Platz" was created there in his honor. Ernst Bettermann died on June 30, 1983.
