History and architecture

Front view (2006)

The church of the Archdiocese of Dili was completed in 1999. Initially white, it was later painted yellow. The bright interior is brilliant white thanks to the white tiles on the ceiling and floor. The altar cross hangs in front of a cross-shaped window so that the sun illuminates it from behind. Two flights of stairs lead to the choir gallery above the main entrance. The bell tower consists of three steps and the tapering roof. In front of the church there is a three-armed " Ai To'os ", as is common in the region's holy houses of the ancient Timorese religion . The three arms symbolize the three legendary ancestors of the three ancient kingdoms of Timor (see History of East Timor ).
