São Mateus da Calheta is a Portuguese parish ( freguesia ) in the Angra do Heroísmo district . It has 3757 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2011).

In addition to the parish church that can be seen from afar, one of the most striking buildings is the Império de São Mateus da Calheta Chapel of the Holy Spirit, built in 1873 . In front of it is a typical Portuguese pavilion, which is used for speeches and live music on public holidays.
