São Miguel is a concelho (district) in the Cape Verde Islands . It is located in the northeast of the island of Santiago about 40 kilometers northwest of the island's capital Praia and belongs to the administrative area of the Ilhas de Sotavento archipelago . In 2010 São Miguel had about 16,000 inhabitants. The main town of the municipality is Calheta de São Miguel with around 5000 inhabitants.
