The sawhorse projection (English Sawhorse projection ) is one of several possibilities, a molecule as a three-dimensional structure two-dimensional display. The spatial arrangement of a bond between two adjacent carbon atoms is shown in perspective in the form of a sawhorse .

The bond between the two atoms is represented by a diagonal line, the upper left corner is supposed to be closer to the viewer and the lower right end further away from the viewer or vice versa. The sawhorse projection tries to clarify the relative spatial positions of groups within a molecule. In addition to describing the conformation of a molecule, it is also used to understand the steric course of addition and elimination reactions .
