Sébastien Wüthrich (born May 29, 1990 in Neuchâtel ) is a Swiss football player and is usually used in midfield on the left wing.

Career

Wüthrich began his career with La Locle Sports. In 2002 he switched to the youth of Neuchâtel Xamax . In the summer of 2007, the left-footed player was promoted to the Axpo Super League team and by December 2011 had played 103 games in which he scored 10 goals. Wüthrich made his league debut on November 4, 2007 in a 1-1 draw against FC St. Gallen . By the end of the 2007/08 season, the midfielder had a total of eight missions and managed to keep the league with Xamax.

In the following season Wüthrich developed into a regular player, although he did not appear for the first time until matchday eight, where he delivered his first template as a professional footballer against FC Vaduz . After he had mostly been substituted on before, he came into the game regularly from December 2008 onwards. On February 22, 2009 he scored his first professional goal in a 3-2 draw against FC Sion with a header, which he later followed up against against Young Boys Bern and Grasshoppers Zurich . After a total of 24 games in the Super League, he had seven assists in addition to his three goals in 2008/09. Thanks to Wüthrich, Xamax was able to celebrate relegation again. In September 2008 he also made his debut in the Swiss Cup in a 2-0 away win against Saxon Sports .

In the 2009/10 season Wüthrich ran 29 times for Xamax in the Super League. On August 31, he scored his first goal of the season with a penalty in a 3-1 win against Grasshoppers in Zurich. Against St. Gallen and again against the Grasshoppers he also scored. But this year he only provided three templates. He scored his first goal in this competition in the Swiss Cup at FC La Comb (8-0).

Xamax had to endure a close fight to stay in class in 2010/11. In the end, they secured eighth place in the table with one point ahead of the relegation zone. Wüthrich contributed to staying up with the winning goals in the 1-0 win at Young Boys Bern and 2-1 at FC Sion , plus he gave four assists. Of 24 games this season, he only completed three completely. In the Swiss Cup he reached the final with Xamax this year, which however was lost 2-0 to FC Sion. Wüthrich was replaced at halftime.

He played 19 games in the 2011/12 season. He scored goals against FC Zurich and FC Thun . So far he has four templates to book. Wüthrich also met in the second round of the cup at SC Kriens (1: 2). In January 2012, his contract with Xamax lost its validity after Xamax's license had been revoked and the club filed for bankruptcy a little later. Wüthrich then moved to FC Sion , as did his teammates Vullnet Basha and Max Veloso , where he received a contract until 2015. On February 5, Wüthrich made his first game for the new employer in a 0-0 draw against FC Basel . In the summer of 2012, however, he was injured in a test match against FCO Dijon , which is why he was only able to participate in the game again in September.

At the end of February 2013, Wüthrich switched to FC St. Gallen on loan until summer 2014 . This was followed by a move to FC Aarau and Servette FC Genève . After three seasons in Geneva , his contract was not renewed and Wüthrich has been without a club since then.

International

Sébastien Wüthrich has already played for the U-18, U-19 and U-21 of the Swiss national football team .

For the U-19, he made his debut on June 10, 2009 in a 1-1 draw in a friendly in Belgium . In July 2009 he took part in the finals of the U-19 European Championship with the Swiss team . In the first game against England Wüthrich equalized to 1-1 in added time. After a 2-1 win against Slovenia and a 0-1 win against Ukraine, Switzerland was eliminated in the preliminary round.

On August 12, 2009 Wüthrich played his first game for the U-21 national team in a 0-1 in the European Championship qualification against Estonia. He then made two more games for the U-21s and was transferred back to the U-20s from November 2010, for which he scored his first goal in the 3-0 win in Poland in March 2011. From August 2011 he played again in the U-21 of his home country.
