Série noire (book series)
The Série noire ("black series") is a French series of detective novels of American origin that Marcel Duhamel founded after the Second World War in the Gallimard publishing house, most of which can be assigned to the thriller genre. In this very successful series - alongside translations of the great American hardboiled detective novels by authors such as Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett - an increasing number of French productions were published.
The reception of the American genre was therefore decisive for the rapid development of Roman noir in France. Some important French authors of the early stages of the literary genre are Léo Malet , Jean Amila , Albert Simonin or Francis Ryck .
At the same time there was the Série blême ("pale series") with less harsh crime novels.
