Founded under the name BN Rent a Plane , the airline started charter operations with a Beech King Air 90 in Munich in 1980 . In July 1984 the company finally changed its name to Südavia Fluggesellschaft mbH and took up scheduled flights two years later . As a result, a Beech King Air 200 and a Dornier Dornier Do 228 in 1987 joined the fleet. However, since the non-pressurized DO-228 was not able to cross the Alps in passenger traffic, the airline purchased a Beechcraft 1900 with a pressurized cabin - in order to be able to operate heavily used routes more often, additional machines were rented, such as an Embraer EMB 120 from the DLT . Because the rapid expansion caused financial difficulties, a group of investors with almost 44% joined the company in 1989, whereupon the first Saab 340 was procured. Nevertheless, the mountain of debt grew, so that on April 2, 1990 the Federal Ministry of Transport withdrew the licenses from Südavia and the company had to be liquidated. On November 28, 2000 it was finally deleted from the commercial register.
