features

The southern shrub insect is very sturdy, has a thick abdomen and is relatively long-legged. Your pronotum is elongated backwards and covers the front third of the short wings. The basic color is dark brown, the body is often slightly purple or tinged with reddish. Dark drawings run over the entire body, these are particularly pronounced on the head and thorax . There is a black spot above the gray-brown compound eye, above and behind this it is lightly bordered. The pronotum lateral lobes are black or black-brown to black-gray in color and have a wide, light yellowish-white border. The wings are dark brown in color and partially lightly veined. The lower thorax is spotted black. The belly is yellowish. The hind legs are usually more monochrome than the rest of the body, but have a more or less faint, reticulated speckle that becomes darker and darker towards the base of the leg. While the front pairs of legs are irregularly dotted with black, only the joint regions on the ankle legs are black. In the male, the relatively long cerci are toothed in the first third. The female has a slightly but clearly curved ovipositor that measures around 11 to 13 millimeters. The southern shrub insect reaches a body length of 17 to 23 millimeters as females, and as males it becomes 15 to 18 millimeters long.
