Rino Mathis (born July 25, 1972 in Männedorf ) is a professional Swiss poker player .
Career
Mathis initially played chess , where he narrowly failed to win the Swiss junior title. He came to poker from chess via backgammon . In backgammon, he won the European Championship Events and the Swiss Championship in 1993 . He learned the profession of computer scientist . In addition to his apprenticeship, he played poker in Vienna and Salzburg . He won the 200 euro tournament in the No Limit Hold'em variant of the Bregenz Open in 2008.
His biggest win was third place with 117,000 euros at the main event of the Master Classics of Poker 2002 in Amsterdam . With a total prize money of over 750,000 US dollars , he ranks tenth on the Swiss All Time Money List .
Mathis was a member of the Full Tilt Pros team . From 2009 he was a member of Team PokerStars for a while . Mathis is married, has two children and lives in Uster .
