Southern Reichswald

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The southern Reichswald has recently been used to describe the closed forest area south of the Lorenzer Reichswald and southeast of Nuremberg .

It covers an area of about 10,000 hectares and extends from the Schwarzach in the north to the Rothsee in the south; from the Rednitz or several municipalities in the west to the municipalities of Burgthann and Mimberg in the east. In addition, the forest area extends east into the Upper Palatinate.

The expansion of the historical term Nürnberger Reichswald is considered sensible, since these forest areas form a geological, geographical and forest botanical unit with the Lorenz forest. In 2000, the regional planning association of the industrial region Middle Franconia designated the "Southern Reichswald" as a ban forest (PIM 2000).
