history
Dürrenhembach was first mentioned in writing in 1325 during official disputes with Heinrich von Wendelstein. In 1360 the site was pledged to the von Wendelstein family. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the surrounding forests were probably overexploited and the area became desertified. It was to this fact that it owes its place name "Dürre am Hembach". In the late 17th century Dürrenhembach was mentioned in connection with forest damage, vermin infestation and drought. In the middle of the 18th century there were four farms and still fallow land; From around the 1830s, the spelling “Dirnhembach” appeared in historical documents.
In the years 1874 to 1890 Lothar von Faber bought all the farms and goods in Dürrenhembach and had them reforested there. He founded the forest and hunting estate, which is still family-owned, in 1875. Most of the buildings from the 18th and early 19th centuries have been preserved, today extensively renovated and are under monument protection (see list of architectural monuments in Dürrenhembach ).
Until the regional reform in Bavaria , Dürrenhembach belonged to the municipality of Raubersried like the neighboring Sperberslohe . In 1971 all three places were incorporated into Wendelstein; The popular as a destination red and black game reserve on Faberhof was the market Pyrbaum assigned.
