The southern juniper jewel beetle ( Palmar festiva ) is a beetle from the family of jewel beetles (Buprestidae) from the subfamily Chrysochroinae of the genus Palmar .

description

The beetles are 6 to 12 millimeters long. The body is shiny yellow-green, the wing covers have a total of about 10 to 13 symmetrically arranged bright blue spots.

Occurrence

Southern juniper jewel beetles live in warm areas. In southern Europe they can be found all the way up to South Tyrol , so far rarely in warm regions of southern Germany, but the beetle species is spreading through the distribution of ornamental and hedge plants via tree nurseries.

Way of life

The larvae develop under the bark of junipers , thuja trees and cypresses .
