South Tyrol Jazz Festival Alto Adige

The Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige is a music festival for jazz and experimental music taking place in South Tyrol .

Founded in 1982 as a concert series for a city audience under the name “Jazz Summer” and later “Jazz & Other” in Bolzano , it has developed into an international jazz festival that is now present throughout South Tyrol and recently also in Trentino and North Tyrol. Sections of the international jazz elite played in the South Tyrolean capital: Don Cherry played as well as Charlie Hadens Liberation Music Orchestra , the Randy Brecker Group , Carla Bley , Chick Corea , Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers , the Roscoe Mitchell Quartet , Pat Metheny , Collin Walcott ,Gary Burton and many others.

Today the Südtirol Jazzfestival Alto Adige offers music for ten days in South Tyrol's cities and villages, in mountain huts and wineries, in parks and gardens, in squares, in cable car stations, on hiking trails, in museums, in front of and on rock faces, open air and in the concert hall . A large part of the approx. 80 concerts, at which mainly young and experimental musicians from all over the world perform, are free for the visitor.
