The Southwest Anatolian Lizard ( Anatololacerta oertzeni ) is a real lizard .
features
The Southwest Anatolian Lizard is a solidly built and medium-sized lizard. It reaches a total length of about 24 centimeters. The back and sides are colored very variably. They can be brownish, brownish-greenish, or greenish. On this basic color there are light spots with a dark border or a medium to dark brown net pattern. The belly is unspotted and light. The throat is usually whitish or bright red-orange to reddish in color, more rarely greenish. At the boundary between the back and the flanks, there is a longitudinal stripe, especially in adolescents and young animals. This can be continuous or dissolved in spots. Young animals have a turquoise-blue tail and an orange-red throat.
Occurrence
The species occurs in the south and southwest of Anatolia as well as on some Greek islands. It can be found from sea level to altitudes of about 2000 meters above sea level. Their habitats are characterized by rocks and have bushes and sparse trees. The species also lives in villages, towns, and orchards. She can climb walls and tree trunks.
Way of life
There is hardly any information about the way of life of the Southwest Anatolian lizard. It feeds primarily on arthropods such as grasshoppers, beetles and spiders.
Systematics
Several subspecies are distinguished. Anatololacerta oertzeni ssp. oertzeni occurs on the island of Ikaria. Anatololacerta oertzeni ssp. pelasgiana inhabits the islands of Symi, Nissiros and Rhodes including Pentanissos as well as the Turkish mainland. Further subspecies are Anatololacerta oertzeni ssp. budaki , Anatololacerta oertzeni ssp. finikensis , Anatololacerta oertzeni ssp. ibrahimi .
