Sălişte de Vaşcău is one of the 5 villages in the municipality of Criştioru de Jos. It is 7 km from Vaşcău , 13 km from Ștei and 80 km from the district capital Oradea . Sălişte de Vaşcău is located at the foot of the Bihor Mountains and near the source of the Crişul Negru .

The first written mention comes from the year 1588. Until 1919 Sălişte de Vaşcău belonged to Bihar County in Hungary. The settlement was known for its pottery at the beginning of the 20th century.

population

At the beginning of the 20th century the settlement only had about 100 houses. Over the years the population grew and thus the village had 683 inhabitants in 1910, all of them Romanians. In 1992 there were 592 inhabitants.
