Sıla Gençoğlu (born June 17, 1980 in Denizli ) is a Turkish pop singer . She has been under contract with Sony BMG since 2007 .

biography

She previously worked as a producer , songwriter and background singer for many Turkish artists such as Kenan Doğulu and Emel Müftüoğlu. In 2007 she released her first album Sıla . The included debut single ... Dan Sonra (German: "After ...") was the most successful single of the year in Turkey. The accompanying video clip was one of the most played clips of 2007. Later, she released Kenar Süsü ( Eng .: "The Mount") as her second single from her self-titled first album. At the beginning of 2008, Sıla produced an international collaboration album with Shaker with the Colombian band Ciclon , which was released on May 15th.

A few weeks after the failed coup attempt in Turkey in 2016, Gençoğlu did not want to take part in a mass rally called a "show" called by President Erdogan , she was attacked harshly on social media and in Turkish newspapers. Local governments in some major Turkish cities canceled planned Gençoğlu concerts, and prosecutors initiated proceedings against Gençoğlu for "degrading the Turkish nation".

In February 2018, six of their titles were blocked by the TRT . In addition to their songs, other songs by popular artists such as Bengü and Demet Akalın have been censored. A reason was not given, but a collective list of possible reasons suggested that the songs were morally objectionable or associated with terrorist activity. The following titles are affected: Afitap , Bırak , Engerek , Engerek (Bedük Remix) , Mühstehcen and Yan Benimle .
