The Sōka University ( Japanese 創 価 大学 , Sōka daigaku ) is a private Japanese university in Hachiōji in the west of Tokyo Prefecture . It was founded in 1971 by Daisaku Ikeda , then president of Sōka Gakkai ; The Sōka high school had already been founded three years earlier, so that its first graduates could continue their education seamlessly at the university. The educational principles of the Sōka University go back to Makiguchi Tsunesaburō , the founder of the Sōka Gakkai, and his "system of value-creating education".
In 2001, Soka University of America was founded in Aliso Viejo , California . In addition to this, the university maintains intensive exchange relationships with a number of universities in the People's Republic of China, which were established immediately after the establishment of diplomatic relations in the 1970s.
