Sōshichi Uchii

Sōshichi Uchii ( Japanese 内 井 惣 七 , Uchii Sōshichi ; born February 3, 1943 in Takamatsu ) is a Japanese philosopher of science.

He began his studies in 1961 at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Kyoto and graduated there in 1965 with a diploma. From 1965 he studied at the Faculty of Philosophy of the same alma mater, where he graduated in 1967. He then was a lecturer at the Institute for Research in Humanities at the same university. From 1968 to 1971 he was a Fulbright scholar and student at the University of Michigan , where he took his doctoral examination in 1971. He was then a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy at the Municipal University of Osaka , from 1981 associate professor and from 1990 professor of ethics at the University of Kyoto. In 1991 he was a visiting fellow at the Center for Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh and in 1993 he was professor for the philosophy of science at the University of Kyoto. He has been retired since April 2006. He was entrusted with various tasks in philosophical journals and organizations.

His main focus within the philosophy of science are evolution and relativity theory as well as the ethics of science.
