The 2062 series is a two-axle diesel locomotive of the type DH 400 B32, developed by Jenbacher Werke (JW, Tyrol). The ÖBB procured a total of 65 pieces from 1958 to 1966 to get together with the little sister series 2060 steam locomotives in shunting peel-and-light line service.

This type of locomotive was also exported by JW to the Soviet Union , Italy , Luxembourg and Yugoslavia and sold to private and works railways. The locomotives have a hydraulic power transmission (gearbox: Voith L26 St) and a diesel engine (two-stroke eight-cylinder from JW, uncharged) with 294 kW (400 PS), the maximum speed is 40/60 km / h (shunting gear / route gear). Length over the buffers 7.9 m, operating weight 32.7 t, wheel arrangement B.

As a result of branch line closures and new acquisitions of the ÖBB series 2068 , 2048 and 2070 , the 2062 became more and more dispensable from the 1990s onwards; it was mainly replaced by units of the 2067 series that became available. The few remaining copies are still in use in construction train service as the X262, for example.
