The locomotives of the SŽD series 2ТЭ10 (German transcription 2TE10 ) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) were wide-gauge diesel locomotives with diesel-electric power transmission primarily for freight train service. They were the two-section variant of the ТЭ10 and were derived from this series. They were nicknamed the Ukraina .

history

A locomotive of this series was developed in 1960 in the Luhansk locomotive factory as a two-section variant of the ТЭ10 . Originally, the first test locomotive was to be given the designation ТЭ12 , but due to the high degree of similarity with most of the components of the ТЭ10 , the Research and Development Institute for Rail Vehicles recommended the designation 2ТЭ10.

The locomotive was presented as two permanently coupled sections of the ТЭ10 , with the machinist's cab on the side behind the radiator being converted into a transition anteroom between the sections. The locomotive was equipped with EDT-340 G traction motors , the transmission ratio to the axles was 68:15. All parameters of the locomotive were available twice compared to the Т10 (power and tractive power as well as supply of fuel, sand, water and oil).

After the test locomotive was built, the Kharkov locomotive factory produced 18 diesel locomotives of this series from 1961 to 1963 with the TED ED-140 traction motors and the transmission number 69:14. The first five locomotives ran in the Kandalakscha depot of the October Railway until 1964 and received positive reviews from the staff there. It was particularly emphasized that the locomotive had the same performance as the then three-part SŽD series ТЭ3 , which made it more suitable for operation with heavy trains.

The remaining locomotives in the series, and thus also the first five vehicles, then ran on the Piwdenna Salisnyzja in freight train service. The decommissioning took place in the 1980s, in 1990 only the 2ТЭ10-008 was available in the inventory lists. The literature does not suggest that a machine may have survived in a museum. But they formed the basis for the series 2ТЭ10Л, which was manufactured in large numbers .
