The locomotives of the SŽD series 2ТЭ10Л (German transcription 2TE10L) of the Soviet Railways (SŽD) are wide-gauge diesel locomotives with diesel-electric power transmission primarily for freight train service. As a double locomotive, they belonged to the ТЭ10 family and were derived from the 2ТЭ10 .

history

The locomotives were developed as a further development of the SŽD series 2ТЭ10 of the Kharkov locomotive factory . They were delivered to the Luhansk locomotive factory from 1961 , with some changes being made to the design of the Kharkov locomotive factory. Therefore, the locomotives received the addition of L . The difference mainly concerned the locomotive body ; compared to the SŽD series ТЭ3 , the transition from the load-bearing frame to the non-load-bearing structure had been changed. Externally, this is particularly noticeable through the wide front and the straight side walls of the locomotive body. The length of one half of the locomotive was reduced by 1641 mm and the weight by 1.5 t. The propulsion system remained unchanged compared to the 2ТЭ10 .

Compared to this, the fuel supply was increased to 2 × 6,300 l and that of sand to 2 × 1,000 kg. The speed at which the maximum tractive effort could be used was 24 km / h, the maximum speed was designed for 100 km / h. The locomotive had an automatic starting device for the diesel engine, and for the first time in double locomotives it was possible to switch from driver's cab to driver's cab without having to switch off the diesel engine. During the long production time, many design changes were made, which particularly affected the electric traction motors, the wheels and the driver's cabs.

A total of 3192 locomotives of this series were manufactured. They were used on ten railway companies in the country, they replaced the less powerful ТЭ3 and its three-part variant. They were mainly used on the railways around Nizhny Novgorod , Turkmenistan and Moldova . From 1993 to 1998 they were taken out of service en masse in Russia , as many newer double or triple locomotives have since taken over their work. They were spotted in Moldova in 2008. Many locomotives have been preserved as drivable machines or as stationary objects.
