SAT-7 is a television station in the Middle East and North Africa with predominantly Christian content.

history

The station was founded in 1995 by Terence Ascott and has been on the air since May 31, 1996 . The program now broadcasts 24 hours a day, over 800 hours a week in 3 languages ​​on 5 channels and reaches around 21 million viewers every day with its Arabic program.

The headquarters of SAT-7 is in Nicosia , Cyprus , the editorial office in Egypt and studios since 1996 in Beirut (Lebanon), Cairo (Egypt), since 2014 in Istanbul (Turkey), Limassol (Cyprus) and London (Great Britain). The station employs 178 people from 22 countries and is financed almost entirely from donations. The budget in 2014 was $ 14.8 million. The supporting partners include the Egyptian Bible Society, the Swiss Pentecostal Mission and, from Germany, the Märtyrerkirche aid campaign , the DMG interpersonal mission and aid organization , the Liebenzeller Mission and the “Action for Persecuted Christians and the Needy” (AVC).

The Iranian exile Mansour Khajehpour has been the director since July 2014. In 2019, Lebanese Rita El-Mounayer, who has been with SAT-7 since 1996 and has been program director from 2016, took over the position of managing director from founder Terence Ascott.

The aim of the station is not only to provide the Christians in the region with media, but also to broadcast information and educational programs. For example, there is a program dedicated to training small business owners and a learning program for illiterate people . The broadcaster deliberately refrains from broadcasting political programs and does not engage critically with other religious groups.
