The Bem 550 were standard gauge -Elektro railcar of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) for the route Geneva-La Plaine that the French were equipped current system and the French signal system. construction

The Bem 550 consisted of two car bodies with one and two entry platforms with swinging doors. At each end there was a driver's cab with large front and side windows, as well as wide ramming beams at buffer height . The driver sits on the right in the direction of travel.

technology

The Bem 550 was designed for one-handed operation, the train driver brakes and drives the railcar using a so-called setpoint generator . The Bem 550 was powered by a single-arm pantograph . He also had a small 88 kW auxiliary combustion engine .
