The Southern California Institute of Architecture ( SCI-Arc for short ; German : Southern California Institute of Architecture ) was founded in 1972 by Ray Cap in Santa Monica and is an independent teaching institute for architecture . It has been based in the Arts District of Los Angeles since 2001 .

The institute, where Thom Mayne was a faculty member at the beginning, offers courses for the BA and M.Arch. -Degree on. SCI-Arc is one of the US architecture academies that has a positive worldwide reputation for the quality of its education.
