Vico Morcote is a municipality in the Paradiso district , in the Lugano district in the canton of Ticino in Switzerland . With its original character, the village is a popular tourist destination.

geography

The village is 424  m above sea level. M. on the south- eastern slope of Monte Arbostora around 150 meters above Lake Lugano opposite Brusino Arsizio . A little to the northeast, the district of Olivella is also slightly above the lake shore , while Colombaio is located directly on the lake on the municipal border with Melide .

The village is mentioned for the first time in 1022 under the then name Vico Morcao , it belonged together with the Carabietta to the concilium of Morcote and formed with Morcote one of the privileged or special communities.

Vico Morcote is accessed by side roads that connect the village with Carona , Melide and Morcote. 4 km to the southwest is the Melide train station on the Bellinzona - Lugano - Chiasso line of the Swiss Federal Railways .
