Servizio Informazioni Forze Armate

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Servizio Informazioni Forze Armate ( SIFAR ) (German: "Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces") is a former Italian intelligence service .

The SIFAR was set up as the successor to the Servizio Informazioni Militare on March 30, 1949 .

The SIFAR was divided into various departments, which were also subordinate to the Chiefs of Staff of the armed forces. This service had more general intelligence responsibilities at home and abroad and was less of a purely technical military intelligence service. From 1949 to 1997, the SIOS services ( Servizio Informazioni Operative e Situazione ) of the three armed forces (G2 / A2) (Sios-Esercito, Sios-Marina, Sios-Aeronautica) were responsible for these specialist tasks .

SIFAR was replaced by the new Servizio Informazioni Difesa (SID) in 1965 because of the restructuring in the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff .
