SMS Rail Service ( AAR reporting mark: SLRS) is an American rail company based in the states of New York , New Jersey and Pennsylvania . The company is classified as a "local railroad". The total distance operated is 48 kilometers (30 miles). The company is based in Bridgeport (New Jersey) .

The company was founded in 1994 by Jeffery L. Sutch and Leonard J. Smolsky and began operations on May 30, 1994 in the Pureland Industrial Complex between Nortonville and Bridgeport , New Jersey.

Up until 2008 there was also the operation of a network in Penn Warner Industrial Park near Morrisville (Pennsylvania) and the route to the Valero Energy refinery in Paulsboro (New Jersey) . In the state of New York, the company has been operating the siding of the Northeast Industrial Park in Albany since November 2006 under the name “SMS Rail Lines of New York” .

In addition to transporting goods by rail, the company offers a wide range of logistics services.

The company had 18 locomotives in 2005, mainly locomotives from Baldwin and Baldwin-Lima-Hamilton ( Baldwin VO-660 , DS-4-4-10 , DS-4-4-6 , DS-4-4-7.5 , DS -4-4-10 , BLH S-12 and BLH AS-616 ).
