Ladies water polo
For several years now, the club began to get involved in women's water polo in addition to men's and youth water polo. However, this engagement only became nationally successful with the formation of a starting community with Freie Schwimmer Duisburg, which was formed for the first time from the 2008/2009 season. Under the official name of the free swimmers, this starting community in the C-youth came second at the German championships. In the 2009/2010 season they played under the official name SSF-Aegir and were first with the B-youth at the German championships. Since the 2010/2011 season they have been playing under free swimmers again , here in the Bundesliga for the first time.
Financial problems
In the last few years, Aegir Uerdingen had financial problems, which ended on May 22nd, 2009 in an application for bankruptcy. The reason for the financial difficulties was mismanagement, the departure of the main sponsor and a steadily decreasing number of members, which fell from 2000 to 1350 (on May 22, 2009) within 5 years.
