The Saxony-Thuringia natural gas pipeline (STEGAL) is a natural gas - pipeline in Germany.

The STEGAL is a 313 km long, east-west running long-distance gas pipeline system, which was built since October 1991 with a diameter of DN 800 (in some sections: DN 1000). The first gas deliveries to customers in Saxony and Thuringia were made as early as 1992 through the STEGAL natural gas pipeline . The entire completion took place in 1993 together with the expanded Rehden natural gas storage facility (1.5 billion m³ working gas) and MIDAL (619 km).

In Olbernhau (Saxony), STEGAL connects to the Transgas natural gas pipeline from Russia, which runs via the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Ukraine , and leads via Rückersdorf (Thuringia) near Gera and Eischleben near Erfurt to MIDAL, which is connected in Reckrod (Northeast Hesse). A connection to the JAGAL natural gas pipeline has existed near Rückersdorf since September 1999 .

Due to increasing demand, the STEGAL ring line was built and put into operation in 2005/2006. This is 97 km long and runs parallel to the STEGAL sections, increasing the capacity of the line by more than 400,000 m³ / h.

At the beginning of 2011, the OPAL pipeline coming from Lubmin (Baltic Sea) was connected in Olbernhau .

The operator of the STEGAL is Gascade .
