Jörg Erb

Jörg Erb (born October 20, 1899 in Kurzell bei Lahr ; † May 12, 1975 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) was a German religious educator and Christian author . His book Shield of Faith. Stories of the Old and New Testament Bible determined a generation of students after the Second World War, both in church religious instruction at public schools in the Federal Republic of Germany and in Christian teaching in the German Democratic Republic .

Life

In 1924, after his training to become a primary school teacher, which was temporarily interrupted by the First World War, he married Frieda Pfander, with whom he had three children. The eldest son died as a Wehrmacht soldier in World War II. The daughter joined the Evangelical Sisterhood of Mary in Darmstadt .

Professionally, Jörg Erb worked as a primary and secondary school teacher and later as head of the primary and secondary school in Hinterzarten in the Black Forest.
