The three electric railcars of the Società Tramvie Locarnesi ( STL ) were designated as Ce 2/2 . They were purchased for the opening of the tram in Locarno in 1908. On the occasion of the abolition of 1st class and the subsequent class reform, the railcars were renamed Be 2/2 in 1956 .

history

The three railcars were the only vehicles that belonged to the STL. The company was dissolved in 1923 and integrated with all its possessions into the Società delle Ferrovie Regionali Ticinesi , which in 1961 changed its name to Ferrovie autolinee regionali ticinesi (FART). In 1923, the railcars had to be converted from 800 volts 20 Hertz to 1200 volts direct current as a result of the system change.

The two-axle vehicles were designed as bidirectional tram cars with longitudinal benches. The platforms also served as a driver's cab and were closed at the front.

The vehicles were manufactured by MAN , the electrical equipment for 800 volts 20 Hz was supplied by Alioth . The direct current equipment was obtained from the BBC .

The number 1 was redrawn to Xe 2/2 no. 7 in 1967 and in 1991 it was restored to its original state from 1908, both externally and in terms of the interior. The electrical equipment from 1923 was retained. The railcar is still an active FART locomotive as Be 2/2 7 or "Tramin 7".

In 1975 the FART Xe 2/2 No. 6 was built on an underframe, which served as a service vehicle with the new steel car body. Parts of wagons 2 and 3 were used for this conversion by scrapping and demolishing the two vehicles.

Trivia

The railcar number 1 received a contact rod around 1952 so that it could use the Ponte Brolla – Bignasco line of the Locarno-Ponte-Brolla-Bignasco railway , which was equipped with a side contact line . To do this, the pantograph had to be relocated. After the Ponte Brolla – Bignasco railway line was closed, the contact rod was removed again.
