When SUNCT ( S hort-lasting U nilateral N euralgiform headache with C onjunctival injection and T earing) of the contact trigeminal neuralgia in a similar pain: Single localized attacks around the eyes in the area of the first trigeminal division of stabbing or pulsating quality. In contrast to trigeminal neuralgia, there is almost always reddening of the eye and tearing on the pain side. The typical age of onset is in the 4th to 6th decades of life, but the disease can occur at any age. The SUNCT syndrome is very rare, around 100 cases have been described in the literature so far.

  • Pain frequency: 3 to 200 times a day

Studies on the treatability of the SUNCT syndrome do not exist. Individual case reports in the literature report successes from the administration of lamotrigine , gabapentin , carbamazepine / oxcarbazepine , clomiphene and zonisamide , sometimes in combination. In individual cases, the intravenous administration of lidocaine was successful in the treatment of the SUNCT syndrome.
