The SV Arnsberg 09 (officially: Sportverein 1909 eV Arnsberg ) is a sports club from Arnsberg in the Hochsauerlandkreis . The first soccer team played for two years in the highest Westphalian amateur league.
history
The club was founded on May 23, 1909 as the Arnsberg Ball Game Club and took on its current name during the First World War . On March 1, 1920, this merged with the Spiel und Sport Arnsberg club, which was founded in 1919, to form VfR 09 Arnsberg , the club name was changed back to SV Arnsberg 09 on August 9, 1925. In addition to football, SV Arnsberg 09 also offers basketball and skiing .
In the 1930s, the Arnsbergers played in the then second-class 1st district class Sauerland . In 1951 the team became district class champions, but failed in the promotion round to the short-lived 2nd regional league at TuS Eiringhausen and the Sportfreunde Lüdenscheid . After a runner-up behind SuS Hüsten 09 , the Arnsbergers rose to the state league in 1953 , which was the highest amateur league in Westphalia at the time. After the direct relegation in 1955 succeeded in the immediate return to the national league. As in the 1953/54 season , the Arnsbergers were third last in the 1955/56 season . Since the descent was suspended in the course of the introduction of the Association League Westphalia , the team remained in the state league.
In the following season, 1957/58, the team was relegated to the district class and three years later said goodbye to the district class. After the direct resurgence, a long district league era followed, before advancing to the state league in 1969. Again the direct relegation followed before the Arnsberger rose to the national league for the fourth time in 1977. There followed several decades as an elevator team between the regional league and the regional league A, before the Arnsbergers had to relegate to the regional league B in 2014.
