history

The SV Augsburg was founded on April 6, 1911 by 22 founding members as a swimming club. Twelve years later - in 1923 - the number of members was already 1,500, a historic high that has not been reached since then: After a steady decline in membership until the 1980s, the number has now leveled off at around 630 members.

The men's water polo team of SV Augsburg, which was a founding member of the Bundesliga in 1969 (now known as the German Water Polo League) and played first-class with brief interruptions until 1979, was particularly successful. After relegation, the team remained in the second division until 1995, before being voluntarily withdrawn into the third division. In the meantime, SV Augsburg no longer had a water polo team in regular play, but then got back into action in the Oberliga Bayern for the 2013/2014 season.

In addition to the water polo players, SV Augsburg has repeatedly produced successful swimmers, for example Max Blank was German champion in the 200 m butterfly swim in 1961 .
