The US Wittenheim (officially Union Sportive Wittenheim Football ) is a French football club from the municipality of Wittenheim in the Alsatian department of Haut-Rhin .
history
The association was founded under the name SV Wittenheim in 1913 in Wittenheim, a municipality that was then part of the Mulhouse district in the realm of Alsace-Lorraine . After Alsace fell back to France in 1920, the club took on the French name of US Wittenheim . In the 1938/39 season , Wittenheim reached the first nationwide main round of the French Cup and was defeated there by FC Nancy with 1: 3.
During the German occupation of France in World War II from 1940 to 1944, the football clubs from Alsace-Lorraine took part in the games of the German Reich . The US Wittenheim now appeared again as SV Wittenheim and was included in the Gauliga Alsace in 1940 . In the 1940/41 season, the club took third place in the Gauliga squadron Oberelsaß. In the 1941/42 season , SV Wittenheim was bottom of the table in the now single-track Gauliga and was relegated to the district class.
Since 1945 the club has been playing again as US Wittenheim in the French league system . From 1945 to 1948 and from 1950 to 1964, the club belonged to the highest French regional class, the Alsatian honor division ( Division d'Honneur Alsace ).
In the 2019/20 season, the club played in Season P of the Liga Grand Est Régional 3 , which belongs to the eighth French league level. At the time of the end of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the US Wittenheim was the season leader.
