Sa'ad al-Abdallah as-Salim as-Sabah ( Arabic سعد العبد الله السالم الصباح, DMG Saʿad al-ʿAbdallāh as-Sālim aṣ-Ṣabāḥ ; *  1930 ; † May 13, 2008 ) was emir of Kuwait between January 15, 2006 and January 24, 2006 . After his brief ten-day reign, he was removed from office by the Kuwaiti parliament. His successor was Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah .

Life

Sa'ad al-Abdallah as-Salim as-Sabah was born in 1930. After completing school in Kuwait, he joined the police force as a youngster . After his training he was promoted to police officer. During his police training, he spent a year at the London Metropolitan Police College Hendon.

After Great Britain granted Kuwait independence in 1961, Sheikh Sa'ad al-Abdallah as-Salim as-Sabah became Minister of the Interior of the now sovereign Emirates in 1962 , and soon afterwards Minister of Defense .

After Jabir al-Ahmad al-Jabir as-Sabah was proclaimed emir in 1977 , the new ruler of Kuwait named Sa'ad al-Abdallah as-Salim as-Sabah as heir to the throne in 1978. As it is tradition in the Kuwaiti dynasty that the Crown Prince at the same time Prime Minister is, Saad Al-Salim Al-Sabah took over in February 1978, this office, which he held until July of 2003. With the death of Jabir al-Ahmad al-Jabir al-Sabah on January 15, 2006, he was designated a new emir. Even before he was officially sworn in on January 24, there was resistance to his assumption of office, especially in parliament. Because of his cancer - the 75-year-old had an operation on the bowel in 1997 and has been seriously ill since then - his ability to exercise office has been questioned. On January 24, 2006, he was removed from office by the Kuwaiti parliament. A valid letter of abdication from the emir, which would have made the whole procedure superfluous, was only received after the vote.

Services

Together with Emir Jaber al-Ahmad al-Jabir as-Sabah mastered Saad Al-Salim Al-Sabah several crises, the largest of the armed Iraqi raid was on 2 August 1990, which it together with the ruling family to Saudi -Arab exile led. As Prime Minister, he initially met the demand for more democratization with a negative attitude; later he supported reforms that gave the National Assembly more rights.
