Wolfgang Günter Lerch (born March 21, 1946 in Friedberg ) is a German journalist , orientalist and author .

Live and act

Wolfgang Günter Lerch passed his Abitur at the Free Waldorf School in Stuttgart and then studied German , Islamic studies , philosophy and religious studies at the universities of Freiburg and Tübingen . He wrote his master's thesis on a topic from Persian mysticism with Josef van Ess .

In 1978 he started working in the newsroom of the FAZ , where he worked as an editor and travel correspondent. He writes about the political events and social conditions in North Africa and the Middle East , which he studied on several trips, especially to Turkey , Iran , Iraq and Syria . He has been a retired freelance writer since 2012.

Wolfgang Günter Lerch also deals with Turkish literature and historical musicology . In 1997 his historical novel Death in Baghdad was published . In 2003 his translations of Turkish poetry became Osman's Lute. Turkish literature published in the 20th century .
