Saadeddine Othmani ( Arabic سعد الدين العثماني, DMG Saʿd ad-Dīn al-ʿUṯmānī ; Born January 16, 1956 in Inezgane ) is a Moroccan politician ( Justice and Development Party ) and the Prime Minister of Morocco . His party is assigned to the country's Islamist camp.

Life

Othmani is a doctor (1986 doctor) and psychiatrist (1994). He earned a degree in Islamic Studies. Othmani wrote numerous books on psychology and Islamic law. He was the editor-in-chief of many magazines and the author of various publications. After Abdelkrim al-Khatib left politics in 2004, Othmani became the leader of the Justice and Development Party.

In the 2007 elections, Othmani's party was predicted to win, but Istiqlal won and Othmani was disappointed.

He was Morocco's Foreign Minister from January 3, 2012 to October 10, 2013 in the government of Abdelilah Benkirane , until he was replaced by Salaheddine Mezouar in view of the lack of diplomatic success . He was given positive credit for a successful visit to the neighboring country of Algeria , which at least temporarily led to a significantly more conciliatory tone between the two warring countries.

After his party colleague Benkirane's failure to form a new government, Othmani was elected by King Mohammed VI on March 17, 2017 . appointed Prime Minister and took office on April 5, 2017. Since then, his party PJD has formed a coalition with the National Assembly of Independents , Party of Progress and Socialism , Socialist Union of People's Forces and People's Movement .
