The Saale bridge Schkortleben is a structure on the federal motorway 38 near Schkortleben in Saxony-Anhalt . It spans the Saale and foreland areas at river kilometer 135.5 . The bridge lies between the Leuna junctions and the Rippachtal cross .

The Saale bridge was built as the first large bridge structure as part of the section of the western bypass from Halle in order to connect the chemical triangle Leuna-Buna-Bitterfeld to the trunk road network as quickly as possible. It cost 53 million marks and was opened unilaterally in August 1997 and completely opened in summer 1998. The girder bridge is curved in plan with a radius of 2000 m and has a superstructure for each directional lane, which is designed for two lanes and one hard shoulder.

Bridge soffit

The structural system of the bridge consists in the longitudinal direction of a continuous beam with twelve openings and spans of 52 m, 68 m, 84 m, 112 m, 84 m, 6 × 68 m and 52 m. In the transverse direction, the two superstructures have a box-girder cross-section and have a constant construction height of 3.0 m in the standard openings. Only above the two river pillars on the Saale does the construction height increase in a cove shape to a maximum height of 5.25 m for static reasons . The reinforced concrete bridge is prestressed in the longitudinal and transverse directions .

The bridge substructure consists of reinforced concrete round columns with a diameter of 2.0 m and a solid cross-section, which are connected in pairs at the top by a crossbar. The river pillars are designed as 3.0 m thick disks. The nine pillars have a flat foundation , the two eastern ones are founded on bored piles .

Construction work

The superstructures of the bridge were built with a 136.5 m prop armor. In the first work cycle, up to 68 m long sections were concreted with the floor slab with the webs, followed by the road slab. Additional auxiliary supports were used to build the main field above the Saale and the two neighboring fields.
