The Saar Spectacle is a three-day folk festival in the Saarland capital of Saarbrücken . The festival is held in and on both banks of the Saar in Saarbrücken-Zentrum between the Wilhelm-Heinrich Bridge and the Bismarck Bridge. It takes place annually in August and attracts around 300,000 visitors.

The festival was held for the first time in 1999 to mark the 1,000th anniversary of the city of Saarbrücken. About 120,000 visitors were counted. Due to the positive response, the city of Saarbrücken decided to continue.

Actions

The highlight of the festival are activities related to water sports. More than 20 water sports clubs and up to 500 volunteers operate here. There are eight and dragon boat races , scuba diving , torch swimming, boat tours and exhibitions of watercraft.

On the areas of Tbilisser Platz in front of the State Theater , Saarwiesen and at the Saarkran there are stages with mostly commercial music and show entertainment. So far, artists such as Nena , DJ BoBo , Blue , Lou Bega , Guildo Horn , No Angels , US5 and various Germany is looking for the superstar participant have performed.
