Sabeth Buchmann

Sabeth Buchmann (* 1962 ) is a German art historian , critic and university professor.

Professional activities

Since 1997 she has been teaching, assisting, visiting and substitute professorships at various academies and universities. Since March 2004 she has been Professor of Modern and Post-Modern Art History at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and since 2005 Director of the Institute for Art and Cultural Studies. Together with Helmut Draxler and Stephan Geene , she carried out the research project on “Avant-garde, Film and Biopolitics” at the Jan van Eyck Academie from 2004 to 2006 .

Sabeth Buchmann publishes regularly in essays, exhibition catalogs and art magazines. She is a member of the advisory board of the magazine Texte zur Kunst and is part of the “PoLYpeN” series, a book series on art criticism and political theory published by b_books .
