Sabine Dabringhaus

Sabine Dabringhaus (born February 3, 1962 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German historian .

Sabine Dabringhaus studied history, sinology and political science at the Universities of Freiburg and Munich . In 1990 she received her doctorate from the Chinese People's University with her dissertation, The Tibet Policy of Song-Yun , written over the previous three years . In the following year she worked as a research assistant at the History Department of the University of Freiburg. From 1994 to 2002 she was a research assistant at the History Department of the Ludwig Maximilians University, where she completed her habilitation in 2003 with a thesis on Territorial Nationalism, History and Geography in the Republic of China . From 2003 to 2008 she worked as a junior professor for modern and non-European history at the Department of History at the University of Freiburg. Since 2007 she has also been a board member in the working group for non-European history. In 2008 Dabringhaus became professor for non-European history with a focus on East Asia at the University of Freiburg. She is co-editor of Periplus: Yearbook for Non-European History and the journal Qing History Overseas Research .

Dabringhaus' research focuses on the Qing Dynasty in the context of comparative empire research, court societies in Europe and Asia, the history of Central Asia (especially Tibet and Mongolia), Chinese nationalism in the 20th century, as well as the communist upheaval in China and the long-term political developments in the People's Republic of China . She is also researching the cultural roots of Chinese modernity and the Chinese emigrants in Southeast Asia.
