Sabine Thillaye , (born Fuchs, born May 18, 1959 in Remscheid ) is a Franco-German entrepreneur and politician . As a former member of the La Republique en Marche party (LREM) and current member of the Groupe Écologie Démocratie Solidarité , she has been a member of the fifth constituency of the Indre-et-Loire department in the French National Assembly since the parliamentary elections in 2017 .

biography

After studying law , Thillaye set up a self-employed communications agency, which she managed from 1987 to 2017. In addition, from 2006 to 2007 she was Chair of the Press Department of the MEDEF Business Association of the Touraine Province . From 2016 to 2017, Thillaye was also a member of the MEDEF Board of Directors .

At the same time, Thillaye taught at the François Rabelais University in Tours .

Since 2014 Thillaye has also had French citizenship. Even before her political engagement, Thillaye was committed to the European unification project. Among other things, she is a founding member of the Europe Val de Loire association, which she has since chaired. She was also deputy chairwoman of the Franco-German cultural center in Touraine .

In June 2016, Thillaye chose the En Marche list ! -Movement to run for Emmanuel Macron in the 2017 general election. In the second round of the elections she prevailed against Fabrice Boigard, candidate of the Les Républicains (LR) party . Before you were elected to the National Assembly , Thillaye never held a political mandate.

Committee on European Union Affairs

In July 2018, Thillaye was elected President of the Committee on European Union Affairs . Its members exercise an information and control function on European policy on behalf of the French National Assembly . The committee also monitors compliance with the principle of subsidiarity .

Since her election to the head of the committee, Thillaye has been committed to expanding his competencies. As President of the Committee, she decided on the nominations of the speakers who are in exchange with the other committees of the National Assembly. Together with Richard Ferrand , President of the La Republique en Marche parliamentary group in the National Assembly , Thillaye also proposed a resolution to promote the symbols of the European Union, which was adopted on November 27, 2017.

On June 28, 2018, Thillaye, as President of the Committee on European Union Affairs, presented a report on the “Role of National Parliaments in the European Decision-Making Process”. Among other things, the report recommends upgrading the status of the Committee on European Union Affairs, making the body a permanent committee and thus giving it the opportunity to intervene in the legislative process . In addition, the report formulates several proposals for strengthening relations between national parliaments and European institutions.

At the end of January 2020, Thillaye was expelled from the LREM group because of the differences of opinion between her and the majority of the LREM faction.

Defense Committee

Thillaye is a member of the Defense Committee, one of the eight permanent committees of the National Assembly . Here she mainly deals with questions of European defense and Franco-German cooperation in this area.

Franco-German parliamentary working group

Together with the German Bundestag member Andreas Jung and her French colleague Christophe Arend, Thillaye was co-chair of the Franco-German parliamentary working group until March 2019 . The working group was founded on January 22, 2018 on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the Élysée Treaty and consisted of six French and nine German representatives from the entire spectrum of parties.

The working group made suggestions as part of the project for a new Élysée contract and was instrumental in drawing up the Aachen contract signed on January 22, 2019 . She was also involved in the negotiations on the Franco-German parliamentary agreement between the Bundestag and the National Assembly . This was signed on March 25, 2019 in Paris.

From 2018 to 2019 Thillaye was Chair of the Franco-German Parliamentary Assembly .
