Sabine Ziegler

Sabine Rosemarie Ziegler (born October 26, 1965 in Basel ; resident in Winterthur ) is a Swiss environmental scientist and cantonal politician ( SP ).

Life and political activity

Ziegler grew up in Holland, the USA, Saudi Arabia, England and India / Nepal as the daughter of a petroleum geologist. She began studying ethnology at the University of Zurich and graduated with a master's degree in environmental science from the ETH Zurich .

She initially worked as Head of Policy & Research at Mobility CarSharing Switzerland . From 1995 to 1998 she was Co-President responsible for the cooperative policy of the KraftWerk1 construction and housing cooperative in Zurich.

From 2005 to 2008 Ziegler headed the Peace Brigade International (PBI Switzerland). From 1996 to 1999 she sat for the Social Democratic Party of the City of Zurich (SP) in the Parliament of the City of Zurich . She was a member of the urban development commission. From 1999 to 2014 she was a member of the SP parliamentary group of the Cantonal Council. From 2007 to 2011 she was President of the Energy, Transport and Environment Commission (KEVU) of the Cantonal Council. She later became a member of the Planning and Construction Commission (KPB).

She is a member of the board of directors of the electricity works of the Canton of Zurich (EKZ) and construction judge of the Construction Course Court Department 2 of the Canton of Zurich. Professionally, Ziegler curates exhibitions and designs communication media relating to the environment, construction and energy. The traveling exhibition Think Earth! on contemporary earth building and Mattiere Grise on the reuse of building materials were shown from 2016 to 2018 in the cities of Lausanne, Geneva, Estavayer le Lac, Bern, Zurich and Basel. Ziegler developed and taught at the MAS course in peace research , ran a political blog and led campaigns.

Since 2014 she has been a member of the management of the SP Canton of Zurich.
