Factual text

With the term nonfiction (also use text , pragmatic , logical , expository or functional text called) each text is called, whose intention (intention) it usually is to provide facts and (z. B. in the newspaper or other media) to inform about things.

Functions

The intentions for factual texts are:

  • informative / informative / depicting: a matter is described, the reader is informed about a matter / facts (example: report , scientific publication )
  • expressive: the reader is informed about the author's own situation (example: self-communication )
  • Commentary: The reader is given an opinion on a matter (example: comment / newspaper article ),
  • Appealing: An attempt is made to encourage the reader to adopt a certain behavior / a certain attitude (example: speech , election manifesto )
  • argumentative / argumentative: an opinion is expressed, the reader should be convinced of it with arguments (example: discussion / statement)
  • normative / normative: it is defined, rules are established; the reader is made to adhere to certain rules (example: norm , law , house rules )

Often several purposes are pursued simultaneously with a factual text; such a text is called mixed text .

A text shortened to the essential aspects is referred to as a short version , summary or excerpt , in the case of artistic works generally as a table of contents .
