Safiye Ayla (born September 13, 1907 in İstanbul ; † January 14, 1998 ibid) was one of the most famous singers of Turkish classical music ( Turkish Klâsik Türk Müziği ).

She began her musical training as a piano student. She took lessons from Mustafa Sunar and taught herself until she started working as the main soloist in the most important casinos of the time.

She worked with the most important artists of the time, including Yesari Asım Arsoy , Hafız Ahmet Irsoy , Selahattin Pınar , Saadettin Kaynak and Udi Nevres Bey . She sang in front of Ataturk at the invitation of the Istanbul governor in 1932 and became his favorite singer.

In 1950 she married the artist Serif Muhittin Targan . She gave countless concerts for the radio stations in Istanbul and Ankara , made more than 500 records and became known outside of Turkey.

Safiye Ayla became the most famous and successful singer of the time because of her singing style, in which she also incorporated western musical forms. She could sing even the highest notes without losing her voice and placed great emphasis on pronunciation. Her repertoire, which included classical, modern and folk songs, delighted a wide audience.

With Seninle doğan gündür bu gönül and Aşk yaprağına konarak koza öresim gelir , she proved that she could also write songs herself. In 1942 she showed her acting talent with the role of Queen Mimoza in the theater production Alabanda .

Safiye Ayla, along with Müzeyyen Senar and Hamiyet Yüceses, is one of the Üç dev Çınar ("three large maples"), an honorary title of the Turkish population.
