Anatoli Michailowitsch Sagalewitsch ( Russian Анатолий Михайлович Сагалевич ; born September 5, 1938 in Tschernihiw , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Russian submarine designer and marine researcher.

Sagalewitsch has worked at the Institute of Oceanology of the Soviet and Russian Academy of Sciences since 1965 and has been director of the submarine program there since 1979. Since 1985 he has held the title of Doctor of Science (Russian Habilitation). He helped build the Pisces VIII and Pisces IX submarines and the two Mir submarines . As Mir's chief pilot, he made over 300 dives and led 28 expeditions, including to the wrecks of the Titanic , Bismarck , K-278 Komsomolez and K-141 Kursk. In 1990 he led an expedition to the bottom of Lake Baikal . In James Cameron's films Titanic and The Spirits of the Titanic he was seen as a Mir pilot. In 2007 he was a Mir pilot on the Arktika 2007 expedition, during which a Russian flag was planted on the seabed at the geographic North Pole. In 2008 he was named Hero of the Russian Federation .
