Montefalco Sagrantino

The Montefalco Sagrantino DOCG (formerly known as Sagrantino di Montefalco ) is a dry, red DOCG - wine from Umbria , Italy . It is made from the Sagrantino grape. The wine has had a "controlled designation of origin " ( Denominazione di origine controllata - DOC) since 1979 . Since 1992 he has been classified in the higher level of a DOCG. This was last updated on March 7, 2014. It is produced in the types "Secco" (dry) and " Passito " (dessert wine).

Cultivation

The cultivation and vinification of wines are permitted in Montefalco and in parts of the municipalities: Bevagna , Gualdo Cattaneo , Castel Ritaldi and Giano dell'Umbria (all in the province of Perugia ).

In 2016, 13,942 hectoliters of DOCG wine were produced from 413 hectares of vineyards .
